Khao Sok National Park

Named as one of the World's 10 Best Parks and Reseves by Lonely Planet in 2011, Khao Sok national park is one of Thailand's best-known national parks for its dramatic limestone scenery, with jungle covered mountains rising up to 1,000 metres in amazing peaks, pinnacles and cliff faces, creating the feeling of a lost pre-historic world.  Khao Sok National Park is about 85 kilometres northeast of Khao Lak and is a one-hour drive from Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort. It is a beautiful reservoir of wildlife--including some of Thailand's last remaining tigers, wild elephants, monkeys, flying foxes and a huge variety of insects still lives in this hidden and little-known place. Walking trails lead to spectacular viewpoints where over 180 species of birds have been recorded in the park. The region's flora includes the world's largest flower, the Giant Rafflesia, which can measure up to a metre across.

A full-day Jungle Safari is available for visitors interested in exploring Khao Sok National Park. It begins with an elephant trek through the park's spectacular jungle, followed by a break for a lunch. The tour then proceeds in a river canoe down the Sok River, where visitors can watch the jungle float by while the local guide slowly and safely paddles the canoe: a truly a magical experience.

There are also trails for visitors to trek on foot and explore the rainforest.

How to get there?
Tours can be arranged through the resort's tour desk. Pick-up time is usually at 9am, and guests return to the resort around 5pm. Daily availability of tours is based on weather conditions and visits to the park are permitted during the daytime only. Visitors can also travel by a private rental car to the national park. It takes about 45 minutes drive from Le Meridien Khao Lak to Khao Sok national park.
